Giving Readers More Support

The Background

With many school districts nationwide slashing their budgets for public education, class sizes will rise and some students will not receive the attention they require and deserve in order to excel and reach their full potential. Unfortunately, students are struggling with reading and there just isn’t enough support to help them read and comprehend what they are reading.

Co-founder of Innovative Knowledge, Mike Rothstein was diagnosed with dyslexia in the second grade and was labeled as “special” and “slow,” putting him straight on the track to underachieve. Having never received the attention he needed, Rothstein entered college at a third grade reading level. Out of desperation to keep up with the pace of higher education, he created the technique that would one day become the foundation for the BookRecorder application: taping his textbooks and replaying them as he read along. Within six months, Rothstein had improved to a college level reading comprehension.

Today, he’s been able to perfect the product and offer it to students facing the same difficulties that he did as a child.

Reading Just Got Easier!

How it all works

The textbook – or any book – is read out loud and recorded into any computer that runs the Book Recorder software. Every word of the book will be recorded and loaded into the computer, and organized by page. Now, the student can come home from school, simply click the “Listen” button and follow along in their book as the words are being read aloud to them. They can even skip back or forward to any page that has been recorded.

Book Recorder is perfectly tailored to improve your child’s reading ability in a fun, simple and effective way.  Too often, children are pegged as “slow” or “special” learners and are placed on the slow track that is very difficult to recover from. This can lead to increased difficulty in moving on to higher grades and can even discourage children from wanting to learn.

One important feature is the ability of the student to adjust the speed of the reader. If they are having trouble following along, the software can simply slow down; or speed up as the student improves. Need a snack or a bathroom break? The recording can be paused at any time.

But no longer do children need to worry about being left behind. With the Book Recorder, students will receive the extra attention that they deserve – at their own pace.
